Practitioner Communications
The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) is a statutory body mandated to guide healthcare professions and protect the public.
To enhance communication with healthcare professionals across 12 professional boards, we implemented a comprehensive and targeted strategy. This included:
- Developing board-specific newsletters to address the unique needs of each professional group.
- Producing monthly email newsletters to ensure consistent engagement and updates.
- Launching a new, user-friendly website to improve accessibility and resource availability.
- Introducing an annual magazine to highlight key achievements and industry insights.
- Organizing practitioner roadshows to foster direct engagement with stakeholders.
- Exhibiting at and attending various conferences to connect with professionals and showcase initiatives.
- Compiling detailed annual reports to provide transparency and accountability.
Through these initiatives, we strengthened the HPCSA’s communication efforts, ensuring healthcare professionals are well-informed and supported in their roles.
Media Relations
I successfully managed the full media function, which included:
- Drafting and distributing media statements to ensure accurate and timely communication.
- Organizing and coordinating media conferences to convey key messages effectively.
- Handling media enquiries and facilitating interviews to maintain transparency and build trust.
- Conducting comprehensive media monitoring and evaluation to assess impact and refine strategies.
In addition, I managed media attendance and acted as spokesperson for various high-profile professional conduct inquiries, including the prominent case involving Dr. Wouter Basson.
My expertise in media relations ensured clear, consistent, and professional communication across all engagements.
Protecting the Public
I led a national awareness campaign aimed at educating the public about their rights and responsibilities in accessing quality healthcare.
In addition, I took a proactive approach by lodging complaints on behalf of the public against healthcare practitioners, ensuring accountability and upholding healthcare standards.
